At Clarke Medical Imaging Center, Ultrasounds are offered by appointment only.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a painless and effective test that uses an ultrasound machine to create real-time diagnostic images of your body's internal organs. Unlike radiography, it does not involve any emission of X-rays. A probe applied to the skin emits ultrasound which passes through the tissues and returns echoes, which are transformed into images on a video screen. There are no contraindications to carrying out this examination.
Clarke Medical Imaging Center provides the following ultrasounds covered by RAMQ:
- Abdominal Ultrasound
- Transabdominal Pelvic Ultrasound
- Endovaginal Pelvic Ultrasound
- Testicular Ultrasound
- Breast Ultrasound
- Thyroid / Neck Ultrasound
- Surface Ultrasound
- 1st trimester dating viability Ultrasound
- Venous Doppler of legs
Preparation for Abdominal Ultrasound: You should fast 6 hours before your exam, you may have water.
Preparation for Bladder (Transabdominal Pelvic Ultrasound): No fasting necessary. Have 1-2 big glasses of water before your exam and do not void for 1 – 2 hours before the test.
Other ultrasound exams do not require preparations.
The Ultrasound Procedure at Clarke
Ultrasound is generally painless. For your comfort and image quality, you will be comfortably lying on an examination table after putting a gown and removing any jewelry from the area to be examined. Do not hesitate to report any discomfort during the examination. The technologist will move a probe and may apply pressure over your skin to obtain images on a screen. It is important to remain still during this examination. Several image acquisitions will be performed. Once the examination is complete, the images will be analyzed by a radiologist and a report will be sent to the prescribing physician. The total time of the exam may vary between 15 and 30 minutes.

Please present a valid prescription and your original RAMQ card. Without a RAMQ, fees will apply.
